Just a little distraction while I am finishing off my most recent commission for Louise and her family (that's the big one in the forest with the bear and two owls).
This one is called "Dreamwalker". I'm constantly inspired by the world of dreaming. What interests me most is the idea of conscious dreaming. Becoming conscious while you sleep so that you can move around and make use of your dream for whatever you need whether it be healing on all levels or catching up with someone you know or used to know, or maybe just to have a little fun - like flying and journeying to any place you can think of. The possibilities are endless. Although this girl looks like she is on her way back from a happy time at a folk festival the inspiration was definitely dream travel and the text on the painting reads..."Trust in dreams for in them is hidden the gate to eternity" (Kahlil Gibran).
I had fun with her patchwork dress and am currently working on a couple of 'patchwork' paintings including an enchanted tree. I found I needed to switch off a bit with the 'thinking' part of painting and to do that I needed to do a bit more doodling. I layer the paper down in a pattern, cover it with impasto to give more texture and then build up the details on top with ink and paint pens. Working the layers up and adding more acrylic paints as I go. Its a very enjoyable process.
